What happens at a consultation?

First consultation

Clinical examination and discussion of what you are asking for. Dr Pulvermacker explains the techniques that can be considered, their limits and their risks. Medical photographs may be taken. Allow thirty to forty-five minutes.

Quotation and reflection period

You are given a detailed written quotation. French law then requires a reflection period of at least fifteen days, during which no deposit may be taken.

Second consultation

Not charged for, it allows you to return to any point left unresolved. A compulsory anaesthetic consultation takes place in the days before the operation.

The operation

In a clinic certified by the French National Authority for Health, as day surgery or with one night in hospital depending on the procedure.

Post-operative follow-up

Follow-up consultations are not charged for during one year. The surgeon's professional number is given to you after the operation.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral or to go through my GP?

No. An aesthetic surgery consultation is directly accessible. For reconstructive procedures that may be reimbursed, a letter from your GP is useful but is not a precondition for the first appointment.

How should I prepare for the first consultation?

Bring the list of your current medication — including anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs, contraception and hormone treatments — your known allergies, your medical and surgical history, and any recent imaging reports for a breast enquiry. Write down your questions in advance: the consultation exists so that none is left unanswered.

Can I be accompanied?

Yes, and it is often helpful: two memories are better than one for retaining the information given. The clinical examination, on the other hand, takes place in private if you prefer.

Does the consultation commit me to having surgery?

Not at all. A proportion of consultations end with no indication for surgery, or with a decision to wait — these are normal outcomes. The statutory fifteen-day period exists precisely so that the decision is taken at a distance, without any pressure.

What happens if I change my mind after accepting the quotation?

You may withdraw at any time before the operation, without justification and without penalty. No deposit may in any case be taken during the statutory reflection period.

Are consultations confidential?

Entirely. The medical record, the photographs and all exchanges are covered by medical confidentiality. Photographs are never published without specific, written and revocable consent.
