Dermolipectomy: before and after photographs

This gallery shows before-and-after results of abdominal dermolipectomy, a reconstructive procedure that removes the excess abdominal skin persisting after significant weight loss or several pregnancies. Unlike liposuction, which treats fat deposits, dermolipectomy corrects above all the laxity of the skin.

Dr Benjamin Pulvermacker, plastic surgeon in Paris 16, assesses the most suitable technique in consultation. To understand the full procedure, see our page devoted to abdominoplasty.

Dermolipectomy removes an excess of skin and fat that has become troublesome, most often after significant weight loss or several pregnancies. Unlike liposuction, which acts only on fat volume, it treats the skin laxity itself.

The scar is the price of this procedure: it is long, permanent, and takes twelve to eighteen months to settle. The surgeon positions it so that it stays hidden by underwear. The photographs shown here were taken well after the operation, once the scar had begun to fade.
